Graduation ceremony Institute Villebon
@Gilson
Building on its commitment to encourage inclusion and equality , ParisTech has taken the initiative in partnership with the University Paris-Cité, the Université Paris-Saclay, and the ParisTech Foundation to create the Institut Villebon-Georges Charpak.
Inclusion, innovative pedagogy (problem-based learning) and interdisciplinarity are key of the Institute’s success. It aims to make the best of French higher education available to young people from less privileged backgrounds.
The Institut Villebon-Georges Charpak aims to accommodate motivated and curious students, who did not show their potential at high school.
It offers a new way of learning which aims to whet the curiosity of the students and their awareness of the sciences, but also to encourage them to pursue longer studies.
It aims to give inter-disciplinary skills in engineering sciences to its students: high priority is given to experimental practice and to students working on subjects which make use of different disciplines.
The students do each year in internship to become aware of the concrete use of sciece and to discover different professional environments.
Since intake 2013, the Institute hosts around 35 students in each class, i.e. more than 300 since its creation. Each class is composed of
About 90-95% graduates pursue their studies either in an graduate engineering schools (among them about 20% in ParisTech schools) or in a master program.
The Institute has an Educational Experimentation Center (Centre d'Expérimentation pédagogique) which allows teachers to develop innovative education projects, share their experiences, use the resources and tools made available (video studio, games, evaluation tools, etc.). The Center runs educational communities in mathematics and chemistry. It provides support to universities or graduate engineering schools which organize Pedagogy Days.
