Explore China with ParisTech: Exchange partnership with Nanjing University (NJU)

ParisTech's partnership with Nanjing University (NJU) offers the opportunity for all engineering students from member schools of ParisTech to go to NJU, in the heart of China, for an enriching exchange semester, during spring 2024.

A prestigious university recognised in the rankings

Nanjing University, whose history dates back to 1902, is located in the city of Nanjing, about 300km west of Shanghai.

Nanjing University is one of China's most prestigious universities. It is a member of the C9 League, a group of leading higher education establishments in China. In the national university rankings, it received an A grade (the highest grade) for the quality of its courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, electronics science and technology, and computer science and technology. In the world university rankings for 2024, it is ranked 141st in the QS World University Rankings, 96th in the Shanghai rankings and 73rd in THE rankings.

Leaving for the Spring semester 2024: modalties

Nanjing University's spring semester begins on 26 February 2024 and ends on 30 June 2024.

There are no prior language requirements for Chinese as a Foreign Language courses. Students can also take part in science and engineering courses taught in English if they have an IELTS score of at least 6 or a TOEFL score of at least 78 (for students for whom English is not their mother tongue).

NJU offers a wide range of courses to personalise the exchange experience:

  • Chinese as a foreign language: The university offers courses at all levels, from beginner to advanced. Students will be required to pass a Chinese proficiency test before starting Chinese language classes.
  • Courses taught in English: These courses are offered by various departments at Nanjing University. A full list of courses can be found on the university website.
  • Courses taught in Chinese: If a course taught in Chinese is of interest to exchange students, they may take it (with the permission of teachers).

Exchange students can get formal NJU credits as long as they finish the required class attendance and pass exams.

Accommodation and social life on campus

NJU offers on-campus accommodation specially reserved for exchange students. They will have the opportunity to live at the heart of Chinese university life and create links with other international students.

The university has set up a Buddy programme. Through this programme, each exchange student is sponsored by a local student who will guide them through their stay at NJU, thus facilitating their integration.

Scholarships

Nanjing University offers scholarships from the Confucius Institute, the city of Nanjing and the Chinese government to support exchange students financially. Depending on the scholarships to which they are entitled, student engineers on scholarship may be exempted from paying registration fees, tuition fees, the cost of basic teaching materials and the cost of accommodation on campus. They can also benefit from financial aid for settling in, a monthly allowance for living expenses and health insurance for foreign students studying in China.
