60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and China
To mark the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and France, ParisTech looks back on 24 years of partnerships in China.
The first Western country to establish official diplomatic relations with China, France has enjoyed good diplomatic relations with China for 60 years. In higher education, as a representative of France's system of excellence in engineering training, the ParisTech network has developed deeply in China over the past 24 years, with remarkable results.
Since entering China in 2000, with the support of the Chinese Ministry of Education, ParisTech has signed framework agreements with 14 leading Chinese universities and created the “9+9” program, which aims to select Chinese students in various scientific and technological fields and offer them the opportunity to obtain the schools' engineering degree. The program is supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), which offers scholarships to Chinese engineering students at ParisTech schools. Today, more than 1,200 Chinese students have benefited from the program and entered ParisTech's engineering schools.
Following the success of the “9+9” program, in 2011 ParisTech signed an agreement with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to create the ParisTech - CSC doctoral program. Until last year, more than 200 doctoral students joined ParisTech laboratories for doctoral studies with the support of the CSC.
At the same time, each ParisTech member school has actively expanded its partners in China, signing agreements with more than ten leading Chinese universities. These high-quality cooperations have enabled more than 200 students to obtain a “double degree”.
The increase in student numbers has also led to the expansion of our alumni network. ParisTech regularly organizes alumni events in Beijing and Shanghai to strengthen ties between alumni and deepen university-enterprise cooperation. These events not only enable alumni to communicate with each other, but also give current students a broader view of the industry and development opportunities.
2024 will not be a dull year: in May in Shanghai, ParisTech and its member schools were invited to take part in the “Forum of Presidents and Directors of Chinese and French Higher Education Institutions” organized by Tongji University, and in June in Paris, we will be taking part in the “Franco-Chinese Higher Education Forum” organized by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Chinese Ministry of Education. Finally, after a break, ParisTech's engineering students are back in China, whether for study semesters, summer schools, double degrees, or internships.
